Overview
Nicknamed Slick Six, the pad was built for the Manned Orbiting Laboratory, canceled in 1969, then rebuilt to send the Space Shuttle into polar orbit, a plan abandoned after the Challenger disaster. Its first launch came in 1995 on a small Athena rocket. Delta IV rockets flew from SLC-6 until 2022, and SpaceX has since taken it over.
