Overview
A Redstone and Jupiter missile pad at the Cape that launched Alan Shepard aboard Freedom 7 in May 1961, the first American human spaceflight, and Gus Grissom aboard Liberty Bell 7 two months later. Both suborbital Mercury Redstone flights splashed down in the Atlantic within minutes of launch.
