Overview
The cradle of the Indian space program, near Thiruvananthapuram, chosen for its position close to the magnetic equator. Its first sounding rocket, an American Nike Apache, flew on 21 November 1963. Early work was done in the church of St Mary Magdalene, which now houses a space museum.
