Peenemunde tested the V-2 from 1942 and launched the first object past the edge of space in 1944. White Sands took over captured V-2 flights in 1946 and still launches today.

Kapustin Yar fired the first R-1 in 1947. Cape Canaveral opened in 1950 with Bumper 8, Baikonur followed in 1955, and Woomera has fired rockets since 1957.

Wallops began in 1945 as an aeronautics range and flew its first research rocket that same year. Walking these pads is walking the first fifty years of the space age.
